Cookie Policy

Effective date: 28 April 2026
Last updated: 6 June 2026

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They help the site remember information about your visit - for example, your preferences, how you navigated the page, or whether you've visited before.

Cookies are not programs and cannot access other data on your device.

Similar technologies such as local storage, pixels, and scripts can serve comparable functions. This document refers to all such technologies collectively as "cookies."

2. Cookies We Use

We use a minimal set of cookies. The descriptions below reflect cookies currently in use on www.handshake-labs.com.

This list reflects cookies in use at the time of publication and may be updated from time to time.

2.1 Essential Cookies

These cookies are strictly necessary for the Website to function and cannot be switched off. They support core features such as security and session management.

These cookies may process limited technical data strictly necessary for the operation of the Website.

We use the following essential cookie:

  • wf_loggedin (Webflow)
Detects whether the user is logged into the Webflow editor. This cookie is only relevant for site editors and is not set for regular visitors. It is stored as an HTTP cookie and expires at the end of the session.
2.2 Analytics Cookies (require consent)

These cookies help us understand how visitors interact with the Website - for example, which pages are visited, how long visitors stay, and how they arrived.

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), implemented via Google Tag Manager (GTM). Data collected through these cookies is used solely for internal analytics purposes to improve the Website.

Google Tag Manager does not independently collect personal data but enables the deployment of tracking technologies such as Google Analytics.

Analytics cookies are placed only after you provide consent via the cookie banner.

We use the following analytics cookies:

  • _ga (Google Analytics)
Registers a unique identifier used to generate statistical data on how you use the Website. Stored as an HTTP cookie with a duration of up to 2 years.
  • ga (Google Analytics)
Used by GA4 to persist session state and track visits, sessions, and campaign data. Stored for up to 2 years.
  • _gid (Google Analytics)
Registers a unique identifier used to generate statistical data. This cookie resets every 24 hours.
  • _gat (Google Analytics)
Used to limit the rate of requests, helping manage data collection on high-traffic websites. Stored for approximately 1 minute.
  • *gtm ** (Google Tag Manager)
Used to manage the loading and execution of scripts and tracking tags on the Website. Stored for the duration of the session.

Data transfers:
Google may process data on servers located in the United States. Such transfers are safeguarded by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission and, where applicable, by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

Where supported, IP anonymisation is applied in accordance with Google Analytics configuration.

3. Managing Your Cookie Preferences
3.1 Cookie banner

When you first visit the Website, a cookie banner allows you to accept or decline analytics cookies. You can revisit your preferences at any time by clicking the "Cookie settings" link available in the footer of the Website.

3.2 Browser settings

Most web browsers allow you to view, manage, block, or delete cookies. For guidance, refer to your browser's official help documentation, such as those provided by Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Apple Safari.
Blocking or deleting essential cookies may affect the proper functioning of the Website.

3.3 Opt out of Google Analytics

You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your data across websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. This operates independently of your cookie preferences on this Website.

4. Legal Basis

We rely on the following legal bases for the use of cookies:

  • Essential cookies - Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). These cookies are strictly necessary for the operation and security of the Website and do not require consent under Art. 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive.
  • Analytics cookies - Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). These cookies are used only after you provide consent via the cookie banner.
5. Updates to This Document

We may update this document to reflect changes in the cookies we use or for legal or operational reasons. The effective date at the top indicates the latest revision.
Material changes may be communicated via the Website.
